Our Volunteer Based Community

Riptide Lacrosse is a volunteer organization and needs all families to play an active role in the club.  A strong volunteer base is necessary and rewarding – it provides a strong sense of community and enables us to achieve our objectives as a club while limiting our costs.

A complete list of volunteer and staff roles along with their job descriptions can be found below .  As a part of registration, families are requested to designate two volunteer roles the family would be willing to fulfill.

Coaching Staff

Our head coaches are a mix of parent volunteers with experience in the game and hired non-parent coaches with more recent playing and coaching experience.   We also have assistant coach roles that are often filled by parents with strong cat-herding skills (lacrosse experiece is a plus but not a requirement).  

 

Team Volunteer Positions: 

Team Manager:  Each team has a team mananger to coordinate team communications with players, parents and coaching staff; mangage league mandated pre-game protocol;  and organize game day volunteers

Score Keeper:  Required by NCJLA - sits at sideline table, tracking score and completing scoresheets

Time Keeper:  Required by NCJLA -sits at sideline table and maintains game clock

Sideline Manager:  Required by NCJLA - keeps sidelines clear of parents and siblings; monitors sportsmanship of spectators

 

Key Administrative Roles  (these roles are eligible for discounted registration fees )

Team Manager  Coordinator: Works with team managers  to insure teams communications are handled consistently.  Coordinates volunteers for club wide initiatives.  

Equipment Manager:  Works with the Club President and coaching directors to manage supplies and equipment for all teams.  Manage all ordering throughout year.  Manage distribution of lacrosse goals to practice and game fields. Create team bags for each head coach. Manage distribution of game boxes and game tables including set up and take down each weekend.  Organize and manage storage facilities for optimal space utilization and easy access. 
 

Uniform Manager:  Coordinate ordering and distribution of all uniforms and pinneys.  Work with uniform vendors and manage inventory.  Solid excel/spreadsheet skills are  helpful. Primarily requires time in Nov/Dec to place orders and February to distribute.

Merchandising Manager:  Work with vendors to create online store and other merchandising opportunities. Coordinate and manage all announcements and ordering for merchandising.  Order coaches gear and team gear as needed.  Manage inventory and organize sidelines sales. 

Field Procurement Administrator:  Procure practice and game fields for Spring season and Fall programs; Coordinate with Rec & Park for all city field permits.  Maintain and communicate fields’ calendar for practices and games. Explore and develop alternative field sources from city high schools and colleges.   Secure permits and work with game scheduler and club manager to allocate fields to teams.

 

Game Scheduling:

BOYS Game Scheduling  Coordinator:   coordinate game scheduling efforts for club, including attending league game scheduling day in December; develop and maintain master game schedule template.  Recruit other parent helpers as needed. Develop relationships with other club schedulers to help streamline scheduling conversations.  Strong Communication and Excel skills helpful.  Requires time in December and followup in Jan.

GIRLS Game Scheduling Coordinator:   coordinate game scheduling efforts for club, including attending league game scheduling day in December; develop and maintain master game schedule template.   Recruit other parent helpers as needed. Develop relationships with other club schedulers to help streamline scheduling conversations. Strong Communication and Excel skills helpful. Requires time in December and followup in Jan.

 

Staff positions:

Club Manager:  Manage club through year-round calendar; maintain registration systems, manage club communications and website updates, directing inbound e-mails to appropriate responder; manage key scheduling functions including field reservations and game scheduling.

Boys’ Coaching Director:  manage all facets of the boys lacrosse program, including staffing and management of coaches and development and implementation of age/ability appropriate lacrosse curriculum across the club

Girls’ Coaching Director:  manage all facets of the boys lacrosse program, including staffing and management of coaches and development and implementation of age/ability appropriate lacrosse curriculum across the club

 

Board & Officers

In addition to the above roles the Riptide is governed by a board of directors who set policy for the club and coordinate volunteers.  Board members serve for at least 2 years and commonly serve as key volunteer roles as well.     The Board is headed by the club President and other officers including club Treasurer and Secretary.
